Mustang is at the upper end of the gorge of the Kali Gandaki River, the deepest canyon in the world, and is famous for its unspoiled culture, its rugged landscape, its unique art and architecture. This trek is the most popular and fascinating trek in Nepal. The Government of Nepal was the 1991 trekkers possible under strict control to obtain a special permit at the cost of US$ 700 per person for this region. The reason is to protect the traditions and the environment of the region.

It is indeed a rare privilege to rendezvous with the way of life of true mountain people, who were not much in touch with the rest of Nepal for hundreds of years. Rain is there a rarity. Vegetation is scarce, with the exception of a few small shrubs and thorny bushes here.

Upon your arrival at the Kathmandu international airport your trek guide will welcome you and lead you to the hotel. After your long journey, have a rest then your guide will pick you up for a culture walk in the Kathmandu city. After about 2 hours back to the hotel and your guide will explain you about your trek. You may ask if you have any questions regarding trek and free evening.

You have intensive full day culture tour together with your tour guide, after your delicious breakfast sightseeing Tour of Swayambhunath Stupa an ancient Buddhist Pagoda lies on the top of the hill. Kathmandu Durbar Square where you will visit Kumari - the Living Goddess of Nepal, Hanuman Dhoka Palace and many other shrines. You will preoceed to Tour of Patan City to have a look and study many beautiful and interesting arts and architecture and historic and cultural phenomena.

After breakfast, drive down to Pokhara which is about 200kms away from Kathmandu and takes about five and half hours to reach. During the drive, you can explore the breathtaking views of Himalayan mountains cape, green fields and so on which soothes your eyes. Arrival in Pokhara and transfer to your hotel.

The flight from Pokhara to Jomsom will take about 20mins. Along the way, you can enjoy spectacular views of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and the entire Annapurna Range including Manaslu and Machapuchhre peak. After breakfast, our guide will take you for a short trek along the Kali Gandaki River. Arrival in Kagbeni, the entry point of the upper Mustang for overnight stop.

The trek continues up the east bank of Kaligandaki passing several farm houses and terraced farm fields to Tirigaon village. Our journey continues over many ridges as it heads towards north and reaches Tangbe village. Beyond Tangbe, we trek about one and half hours to reach Chusang village for night halt.

Crossing a small suspension bridge, our trek continues steeply up to Chele village. The climb continues along steep, treeless, waterless terrain until the trail makes a gradual descend on a pleasant way to Samar village. Overnight in Samar.

The trek continues towards the higher altitude and one feels the fresh, cooler and thin air with blue sky overhead. Walk leads towards Yamda La pass at 3,860 meters offering overwhelming views of magnificent sceneries and snowcapped mountains and descend downhill to Geling village for overnight halt.

This is an opportunity to visit Geling Monastery in the morning visit that will be followed by our trek on the uphill climb to Ghemi village, passing through the series of Budhhist Mani walls to reach Dhakmar village, heading towards east. The trail makes a long gentle descend to Charang for overnight stay.

The journey leads to the highlights of the destination, crossing the bridge through Marang village, passing many religious Buddhists Chortens between Charang and Lo Manthang. The trails offers a charismatic view of the surrounding area including distant mountain views of Nilgiri, Tilicho, Annapurna and Bhrikuti peak and slowly over the Lo La pass to reach the walled city of Lo Manthang.

The optional walk to historical, cultural centre of Lo-Manthang, then visiting the four main Gompas ( monasteries) including Namgyal Gompa, Champa Lakhang (God House), the red Thubchen Gompa, Chyodi Gompa and the Great entrance hall. These are the important places and main attraction of Lo-Manthang with an extra entry fees to enter these Gompas. Besides the another attraction is the four-story building of the Raja's Palace as well as the surrounding panoramic views of the Himalaya.

The trail makes a long rocky descent to Lo- Gekar Gompa , which is older than the Samye Gompa in Tibet and is one of the oldest Gompa of Nepal. We cross a ridge after a little climbing and drop down steeply to Dhakmar village.

The trail descends alongside the stone walls and fields extensive villages before climbing to a ridge. It is short descent to Ghami. Now we must retrace our route back to Syngmochen.

After breakfast, we walk short level trail and steep climb up until reaching Yamdo-La. Then, we slightly climb down to Bhena. After passing the hamlets, namely Yamdo and Bhena, a long descent start to Samar crossing small streams. After lunch the trail passing the big canyons and we reach in Tsaile. After that, we steep descend to the Kaligandaki River and cross by an iron bridge, then continue the trail along the Kaligandaki River until reaching Chhusang.

It's a long final day passing back through Kagbeni to Jomsom where we end our trek. It's now time for us to take a nice hot shower. In the evening, we celebrate with the Sherpas and porters, whom we have come to know so well over the last 2 weeks.

Jomsom Pokhara

An early morning flight with mind blowing scenery of snowcapped mountains all the way to Pokhara. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for overnight stay with plenty of time in the afternoon for walks around or boating or paragliding (optional).
